After failing on all fronts in 2024-2025, Real Madrid had to react quickly and did not hesitate to dig deep into their pockets during this summer transfer window to wisely strengthen their squad. These purchases will have cost the Merengues dearly, who are currently experiencing their most expensive transfer window in six years, with a total of €178 million spent. The reasons for this are the recruitment of central defender Dean Huijsen (Bournemouth, €58 million), full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool, €7 million) and Álvaro Carreras (Benfica, €50 million), as well as the arrival of Argentinian midfielder Franco Mastantuono (River Plate, €58 million), who will not join the Madrid squad until mid-August.
These 178 million euros, which represent almost half of the 390 million invested by all La Liga clubs this summer, are still far from the cumulative investment of more than 500 million euros over two years, in 2018-2019. Years during which the White House welcomed several players who became essential elements in the conquest of numerous titles: Thibaut Courtois, Vinicius, Éder Militão and Rodrygo. The newspaper AS recalls that since the summer of 2019, Real has only exceeded 100 million euros once, notably in 2023-2024 to recruit Jude Bellingham (103 million euros fixed plus 30.9 million euros in bonuses, a third of which would have already been reached). Very cautious in the rest of his transfer window, president Florentino Pérez would only be ready to increase the bill for two very specific targets .
