André Onana (29 years old) thought his future was settled by remaining Manchester United 's number 1 , but the Cameroonian goalkeeper has just suffered a terrible blow that could change everything. Absent from Manchester United's pre-season tour due to a hamstring injury, the former Inter Milan goalkeeper could be out for up to 8 weeks and thus miss the entire start of the season, as well as the first Premier League matches . This could cause a headache for Ruben Amorim.
After his mixed performances throughout last season, the Cameroonian goalkeeper's continued presence at Manchester United was questioned on several occasions. But despite several leads and interest from AS Monaco in acquiring him , André Onana had finally benefited from Ruben Amorim's trust to remain a regular at the Red Devils, until this latest news. According to the Telegraph , this injury now forces the Old Trafford residents to recruit another goalkeeper before the start of the Premier League season.
Manchester United has leads
Manchester United will make a final decision during the summer transfer window on whether to consider a replacement or even competition for André Onana. Ruben Amorim will be able to observe the performances of Altay Bayındır, currently number 2, Tom Heaton, also a substitute after signing a new one-year contract at Old Trafford, and Czech goalkeeper Radek Vítek (21), who has just returned from a successful loan spell. And if a signing is needed, the Red Devils already have some targets.
Manchester United were linked with signing Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez earlier this summer, but no agreement was reached. Other goalkeepers in the pipeline include 23-year-old Senne Lammens, who plays for Antwerp. Manchester United have also sent scouts to watch Lucas Chevalier and Zion Suzuki (Parma). Ruben Amorim is keen to have his squad ready before heading to the United States for the pre-season tour and will therefore have to make his decision quickly.
