The Club World Cup continued its journey last night. The four teams in Group E faced off on the final day. We now know the names of the teams in this group that will play in the round of 16 of the tournament. The first match pitted Inter Milan against River Plate . And Cristian Chivu managed to secure his second victory with his new club, five days after the success against Urawa . After a goalless first half, it was necessary to wait for the second to see some spectacle, notably with the expulsion of Lucas Quarta on the hour mark (62nd). The Interistas were able to take advantage of this numerical superiority, scoring a few moments later through Francesco Pio Esposito (72nd). The Argentinians pushed to equalize, but were again trapped at the end of added time, by a goal from Alessandro Bastoni (90th + 3). Final score: 2-0 for the Italians.
In the other match, Urawa faced Monterrey . And it was a real slap that the Mexicans inflicted on the Japanese (0-4). The first half was one-sided, with three successive goals scored by Nelson Deossa (30th), Germán Berterame (34th), then Jesús Corona (39th). The last forty-five minutes were more balanced, with only one goal scored by Sergio Ramos' teammates: the work of Germán Berterame, once again, at the very end of the game (90th + 7). At the end of this group stage, it is therefore Inter Milan and Monterrey who will play the round of 16. They will face Fluminense and Borussia Dortmund respectively.
