After losing Rayan Cherki to Manchester City for around €42.5 million including bonuses, another of Olympique Lyonnais' key players is being sought out by a major Premier League club : Malick Fofana . According to the latest information from The Athletic , Chelsea have made a verbal request to Olympique Lyonnais for Malick Fofana (20 years old). The London club has contacted the Lyon management to inquire about the Belgian international, who arrived from La Gantoise in January 2024.
The Belgian is one of several options being considered to strengthen the London squad this summer, particularly following the departure of Jadon Sancho, who returned to Manchester United after Chelsea decided not to exercise his purchase option. The Stamford Bridge club also approached Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Bynoe-Gittens ahead of the Club World Cup. However, Malick Fofana is a serious option, and talks are ongoing, although no offers have reportedly been made yet.
Chelsea want a new striker
Under contract with OL until 2028, the Lyon winger has impressed this season, despite an injury during the season. Having scored 11 goals and provided 6 assists in 41 matches across all competitions this season, the winger notably stood out in the Europa League with 6 goals. These performances earned him his first call-up to the national team last October, with a selection for the Red Devils.
His departure could allow Les Gones to take a further step towards getting back into line with the DNCG, while John Textor and the OL directors will be questioned by the financial watchdog on June 24. It remains to be seen whether Lyon will be open to the departure of one of its best talents this summer, while Lyon goalkeeper Lucas Perri is also being approached .
