The 109th edition of the Coupe de France has reached its final stage. After the first eight rounds, which saw numerous eliminations in the lower divisions, Ligue 1 and its 18 representatives entered the competition for the Round of 32. As every season, the best French clubs face off against smaller teams, regularly producing some surprises.
On Monday, December 1st, we had a date at 7 PM to find out the 32 matches of this 9th round of competition. In addition to the 18 Ligue 1 clubs, there were 12 of the 18 Ligue 2 clubs and 5 of the 17 National 1 clubs that had managed to qualify so far. Also of note is that the Guadeloupean team, Le Gosier, secured a place, as did Freyming, a Regional 2 (D7) team, who will be the underdogs of the competition.
Only one clash between L1
The schedule features only one clash between Ligue 1 teams (Auxerre vs. Monaco) and two between Ligue 2 sides (Grenoble vs. Nancy and Guingamp vs. Laval). Otherwise, the top Ligue 1 teams have been relatively spared. Defending champions Paris Saint-Germain will travel to Vendée to face National 3 side Vendée Fontenay Foot. Meanwhile, Ligue 1 leaders RC Lens will play National 2 side Entente Feignies Aulnoye.
For France's two most famous Olympique clubs, Lyon will travel to face their Régional 1 neighbors, FC Saint Cyr Collonges-au-Mont-d'Or. As for Marseille, Roberto De Zerbi's men have drawn Bourg-en-Bresse Péronnas (National). The competition's minnows, Freyming, will host Chantilly (N2). The Guadeloupean side Le Gosier (R1) will welcome Lorient (likely in the Île-de-France region). Finally, a clash between Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 teams, which has more in common with a Ligue 1 duel, is expected between Nice and Saint-Étienne.
