Real Madrid has added a new defensive reinforcement . The Spanish club, which will welcome Xabi Alonso as its new coach, has already made a major move. After signing Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth and with the arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool confirmed, Real Madrid has decided to strengthen its left-back lineup by signing Alvaro Carreras.

Having trained at Real Madrid between 2017 and 2020 before moving to Manchester United, the Spanish left-back has spent several loan spells, including at Preston North End, Granada, and Benfica in January 2024. Retained by the Aguias for €6 million in the summer of 2024, he has now been sold to the Merengues for €60 million.

Decisive this season with Benfica thanks to his relentless activity, the Spanish U21 international has 49 appearances for the Portuguese club, scoring four goals and assisting five times. Solid credentials for the Ferrol native, who can play perfectly as a left-back, left-sided central defender, or left-sided centre-back. A versatility that will appeal to Xabi Alonso.
