Diogo Jota will forever be Liverpool 's number 20. Nine days after the Portuguese striker's sudden and brutal death in a road accident alongside his brother André Silva, Liverpool announced that the number 20 would be permanently retired in memory of their former player. This decision will affect not only the club's men's professional team, but also the women's and youth teams.

"This decision is a recognition not only of our young Portuguese's immeasurable contribution to the Reds' success on the pitch over the past five years, but also of the profound personal impact he has had on his teammates, colleagues and supporters and the everlasting bonds he has built with them ," the Reds' statement said. Michael Edwards, the Reds' sporting director, added: "This is a unique tribute to an exceptionally great person. By retiring this number, we are making it eternal – and therefore never forgotten."
