Atlético is in a mess with its undesirables

A page is turning at Atlético Madrid, if not closing a chapter. After much deliberation, Antoine Griezmann has finally extended his contract until 2027. Other players in the squad, such as Axel Witsel, Reinildo, and Cesar Azpilicueta, have not been so lucky. Rodrigo Riquelme has been transferred to Betis. Angel Correa has left to join Tigres in Mexico . Another Argentinian could also cross the Atlantic, as Rodrigo De Paul has been invited to leave.

With one year left on his contract, the world champion is being courted by Inter Miami, what's more . There he would be reunited with his friend and the man he's the national team's watchdog: Leo Messi. The deal is reportedly worth around €15 million. That's still too little to significantly reshape the squad, even if offers are hoped for, if not expected, for Nahuel Molina and Samuel Lino. According to AS , they are popular in England and Italy. The various projects need to accelerate.

No one is untransferable

In Diego Simeone's eyes, there aren't many untouchables. Only Julián Alvarez, Pablo Barrios, Giuliano Simeone, and Marcos Llorente are on this select list. Above all, the capital club would like to get rid of players whose contracts are carrying significant costs even though they are no longer playing. Thomas Lemar has disappeared (only 8 appearances this season). Saúl Ñíguez was loaned to Sevilla FC, who declined to retain him permanently. They have two and one years remaining on their contracts, respectively.

Other players have been approached, but nothing has materialized. Saudi Arabia has been considering José María Giménez, but he has not responded, preferring to stay at Atlético. Javi Galan will not be considered if an attractive offer is made, even though his performances have been satisfactory. Finally, Conor Gallagher has not yet been able to reach his full potential since his arrival a year ago. If an offer in excess of €40 million from the Premier League reaches the club, it will be considered
