OL relegated to Ligue 2!

Sixth in Ligue 1 and quarter-finalists in the Europa League, Olympique Lyonnais narrowly missed out on a great season, but delivered a respectable performance. However, while the sporting situation is at least adequate, the club's economic situation is quite different. Last November, Olympique Lyonnais saw the DNCG take a heavy hand.

Pinned by the French football financial watchdog, the RhĂ´ne club was provisionally relegated to Ligue 2 at the end of the season. This was a severe punishment for the RhĂ´ne club, which had easily maintained its Ligue 1 position on the pitch and was now expected to do so in the offices. Lyon, which was required to provide financial guarantees, was interviewed this Tuesday.

OL relegated to Ligue 2

Thus, the move from the club owned by John Textor was highly anticipated, and various scenarios were available to Les Gones. Either a green light and therefore the end of the constraints of the DNCG, or an orange light signaled by a framework for the payroll and/or transfers (which could go as far as a recruitment ban), but also a nightmarish outcome with the confirmation of last November's sanction, namely relegation to Ligue 2.

And it was via a customary email that the DNCG communicated its decision. "As part of the review of the clubs' situation for the 2025-2026 sports season, the Professional Club Control Commission has taken the following decisions in application of article 11 of the DNCG Regulations: OL: relegation to Ligue 2 Championship !" A blow to John Textor, who had expressed his confidence at the end of the hearing . OL should appeal this decision, in the hope of saving its place in the elite next season. But this is clearly not the scenario that was envisaged even today...
