Manchester United 's 2024/2025 season was a trying one. The change of manager (Ruben Amorim succeeded Erik ten Hag) didn't exactly work out. The Red Devils finished fifteenth in the Premier League and were beaten by Tottenham in the Europa League final. It was a grueling month for Ruben Amorim, who often appeared powerless. This summer, however, the Portuguese manager plans to start afresh.
MU heads to the US without its undesirables
While waiting to see what transfer window INEOS has in store for him, the former Sporting Portugal coach will be able to complete a full preseason and prepare his squad as he sees fit. A new era that will be fatal to several undesirable elements for Amorim. The Daily Mail , the Mirror and the Sun all announce in chorus that four Mancunian players will pay the price. The three English media outlets in fact claim that Ruben Amorim has decided that MU will fly on its tour to the United States without Marcus Rashford , Antony , Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho .
On paper, these four names don't surprise anyone. Rashford, the first to be mentioned, has long since been a part of Amorim's plans. On loan at Aston Villa this season, the English winger was quite effective with the Villans (4 goals, 6 assists in 17 matches), but he won't be staying in Birmingham. Under contract until 2028, Rashford is being courted by Newcastle, FC Barcelona, and Inter. The second to be banned, Antony, is uncertain. "I don't know what the future holds for me, only God knows. I have a contract with Manchester United." On loan at Betis, the Brazilian has completely relaunched himself in Andalusia (5 goals, 2 assists in 17 La Liga matches). The former Ajax player, who is on loan with the Red Devils until 2027, has left Sevilla, but he hopes the Verdiblancos will try to sign him permanently. Problem: MU is demanding at least €35 million.
No surprises among the banished
The third player named is Jadon Sancho, who was not retained by Chelsea. On loan to the Blues, the British striker saw the Londoners pay a €6 million penalty to Manchester United (in order to exercise the €30 million mandatory purchase option, editor's note) to end their collaboration (5 goals, 10 assists in 41 matches). Under contract until 2026, Sancho also has many suitors (Napoli, Juventus, Al-Hilal, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle). Finally, it is not surprising to see Alejandro Garnacho among those banned from Amorim. Under contract until 2028, the Argentinian had a more than decent 2024/2025 season (11 goals, 10 assists in 58 matches).
However, his relationship with his coach has been marred by numerous clashes, the last of which came after the Champions League final, when Garnacho publicly expressed surprise at having only played 20 minutes. "Until the final, I played every round, I helped the team, but playing 20 minutes today... I don't know." Erik ten Hag is reportedly willing to relaunch him at Bayer Leverkusen. However, Manchester United are demanding no less than €80 million for their unwanted player. A price that is not really compatible with his status. Having been excluded from the American tour, Rashford, Antony, Sancho, and Garnacho have received a clear message. It now remains to be seen whether these four will have packed their bags when Manchester United returns from their trip to Uncle Sam.
