Club World Cup: Inter Miami overturns Porto thanks to Messi

Held to a 0-0 draw by Al-Ahly on the first day of the Club World Cup, Inter Miami took on Porto this Thursday evening, intent on securing their first victory in the competition. Unfortunately for Lionel Messi's team, the Portuguese side made the difference early on in the match after Allen fouled Joao Mario in his own area. Samu Aghehowa then unwaveringly gave his team the lead by perfectly converting the penalty (0-1, 8th). Timid in their attempts throughout the first half, Martin Anselmi's men nevertheless managed to contain the Floridian attacks to take the lead at half-time.

After the break, Inter Miami finally responded. Segovia stepped up to Weigandt's back cross and fired the ball into the far corner (1-1, 47th). Buoyed by this equalizer, the Floridians even took the lead shortly afterward thanks to the inevitable Lionel Messi, who scored a superb direct free kick (2-1, 54th). In the final quarter of an hour, Ustari remained vigilant against Gomes's shot (75th) and thus allowed Inter Miami to secure their first victory in the competition. With this victory, the Floridians return to level with Palmeiras at the top of Group A.
