It's a recurring rumor in the Madrid press these past few months: Real Madrid reportedly wants to sign Vitinha and entrust him with the keys to their midfield as early as next summer. The Spanish media even mentioned a clause in his contract allowing him to leave the Parisian club for €90 million. Since release clauses don't exist in player contracts in France, this clause—if it does exist—would likely be a private agreement, or a gentleman's agreement between the player and the club's management.
In any case, while it's clear that Paris Saint-Germain won't let their player go easily, in Madrid, they seem to believe it's possible. This is despite the extremely strained relations between the two clubs, following various issues such as the European Super League – Nasser Al-Khelaïfi is a high-ranking UEFA official, and Florentino Pérez supports the creation of this new tournament – or the Mbappé affair.
Vitinha must take action
Cadena SER, a highly reputable media outlet in Spain, revealed more details on Monday. They reported that Vitinha remains Real Madrid's top priority for strengthening their midfield this summer, and that a private agreement exists within his contract allowing him to leave PSG if he so desires. Crucially, however, they revealed that Real Madrid is waiting for Vitinha to make his move. He is the one who must initiate contact if he wants to join the Bernabéu.
The ball is now in Vitinha's court. If he wants to leave, he must inform the management of both PSG and Real Madrid, and from that point on, Los Blancos will launch the operation. While a release clause of €90 million was mentioned a few months ago, Cadena SER is now reporting a transfer fee that could be around €100 million.
